about Roberto Pelle
Inspired by his maternal grandfather, sculptor Vincenzo Cardelli, Roberto Pelle (birth surname Pellecchia) commenced drawing alongside the artist during his childhood visits. At the age of nine, he received an award for his first tempera painting on canvas, titled “Maternity,” which marked the commencement of his artistic journey. Roberto attended the five-year program at the Istituto D’Arte Palizzi and completed two years of continuing education in classic architecture at the Facoltà di Architettura Federico II in Italy.
Throughout his academic journey, Roberto consistently seized
opportunities to undertake small commissions and design jewelry for his
father, Gennaro Pellecchia, a renowned jeweler. His inaugural internship
involved creating drawings for the team responsible for reconstructing
historic buildings ravaged by the earthquakes of 1980-81 in southern Italy. In 1985, he relocated to Southern California, where he established his
permanent residence.
Roberto’s figurative paintings primarily concentrate on human expressions,
portraits of renowned music icons, and symbolic characters. In addition to
working on his paintings and commissions, his studio activities, encompass
hand-drawn and digital designs, as well as 3D renderings of classic interiors and period architectural detailing.
Following a series of commissions, he began to design interiors that emulated masterpieces of interior architecture with paintings and frescoed scenes.
He commenced working on larger installations in the mid-1990s, frequently
collaborating with local artists and receiving assistance from art students.
Some of the most distinctive installations are found within villas, chapels, churches and commercial properties throughout California, Hawaii, North Carolina and Texas.
Roberto’s work has been featured in television programs and various
publications. A video of one of his sizable projects can be viewed at:
